How many choreographers are you seeking?
We are looking for two choreographers who live and primarily produce work in Austin and the surrounding area, and who have a special interest in developing their craft and seeking challenging choreographic experiences.
What styles are eligible?
In future years as the project expands, we hope to be able to include a variety of styles. However, our current level of resources keeps the focus on contemporary and modern styles only. If you have a proposal for a different style of dance you are welcome to email us to ask questions, but please know that we are extremely limited in our ability to make exceptions at this time.
How are applications selected?
We have worked very hard to assemble a panel that represents a wide variety of artistic perspectives, some from outside Austin and some from within. Applications will be chosen based on the strength of the written proposal, video submission, and alignment of the applicant with Articulate’s mission. In cases where there may be a conflict of interest (for example, applicant “A” has worked artistically with panelist “B” in the past), certain panelists may recuse themselves to ensure an equitable assessment.
Will we receive feedback on our applications?
If your application is among the top 7 applications, yes, you will receive written feedback from our panelists by March 3. All applicants will receive a brief note of feedback from Articulate’s Directors.
Are all the showings mandatory?
Yes. Showings are a fundamental part of the nature of the program. You must be available for and attend all scheduled showings and performances.
Dates are final for Auditions, Tech and final performances. If you have a potential conflict with one of the informal showings, you may apply, just note that conflict—we may be able to shift those dates slightly (though this will depend on availability of space and we make no guarantees).
When are rehearsals?
Times are still TBD, and will be decided based primarily upon studio availability, but some choreographer availability will be taken into consideration. Current plans are for a commitment of three hours/week, including one hour of class/warmup, and two hours of studio rehearsal time.
